Filiberto Hernandez, a team member with Unidos en Salud, poses for a portrait at the community vaccination site on 24th and Capp Streets —the first in the Mission—Wednesday February 10, 2021.
Hernandez is a day laborer who used to get work through the San Francisco Day Labor Program, but since the pandemic started, he had only been getting work once every two weeks or so. While looking for more steady work, he ended up being hired by Unidos en Salud to help run the vaccination site.
When asked how he felt about this new kind of work, he answered, in Spanish: "I realized that I like interacting with people, it's very different to what we were doing there [at the Day Labor Program] and it's very comforting for people to leave happy and appreciate what we're doing, that's very beautiful."
