About Me

Mabel Jiménez is the California Visual Desk Editor for CatchLight  and a documentary and portrait photographer.

Jiménez is an award winning journalist and  with 15 years of experience working in nonprofit local media.

Formerly the photo editor for San Francisco’s El Tecolote bilingual newspaper, during her tenure there she led a diverse, award-winning team of photographers and created “Latino Life,” a yearly photojournalism exhibition highlighting the Latinx experience in the Bay Area.

Jiménez has produced award winning documentation of the refugee crisis at the U.S./Mexico border; and in 2021  documented the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on San Francisco’s Latinx community through an art residency for San Francisco Arts Commission and SF's COVID Command Center.
